Who We Are
The American Alliance for pProm Support DBA The PPROM Foundation is a non-profit organization and public charity recognized as tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3). All donations and contributions will fund our Mission: to provide resources and support for those experiencing Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) in pregnancy and beyond. PPROM occurs in 4 of 100 pregnancies, is the leading identifiable cause of preterm birth in the United States, impacting approximately 40% of all premature deliveries. Our three pronged focus includes: Advocacy, Partnerships, and the PPROM Registry.
The American Alliance for PPROM Support was started in 2013 by Erin and James Thatcher of Colorado. In March 2012 at 12 weeks pregnant Erin's water broke (PPROM) with baby B of twins. Erin stayed pregnant for 104 days or 15 weeks without amniotic fluid for one of the twins, and delivered via c-section after going into labor naturally at 27 weeks. The twins spent several months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and went home on oxygen. Today they are thriving and active grade schoolers.
Recognizing the need for a more specific and focused organization supporting PPROM parents, this organization was founded to promote Advocacy, Partnerships, and the PPROM Registry.
Our Current Work
With advocates in dozens of states and contacts abroad, The PPROM Foundation has impacted thousands of women diagnosed with pProm. Using a collaborative approach with hospitals and physicians who treat PPROM pregnancies, women and their providers can rest assured that they are being well cared for while exercising Expectant Management. Finally, The PPROM Registry can be found in the ClinicalTrials.gov database and is currently enrolling participants.
We are excited to announce upcoming Board of Directors openings in fall 2019. Stay tuned!
